Why bother with computational corrosion analysis? Globally, corrosion costs about 4% of gross domestic product, apart from its evident impact on safety. But, according to recent estimates by the US Navy, a better design can reduce corrosion costs by 40%.

With the newly released MIL-STD-889, we are experiencing a paradigm shift in galvanic compatibility of electrically conductive materials in that galvanic corrosion will no longer be estimated using a table of electric potentials. Instead, galvanic current calculations will be made based on a curated material database using a consistent methodology defined in the specification.
