Prof Ayon Bhattacharjee is a Professor of Physics at NIT Meghalaya. He is involved in research in the field of Soft Matter Physics, Nanotechnology and Quantum Devices. He has contributed mainly in the field of Liquid crystals, the base material for LCD devices, produced more than 90 papers in internationally acclaimed journals. His research on insulin detection using liquid crystals has been a pioneering work, and currently, he is using machine learning to enhance his work. 12 scholars have received their PhD under his supervision, and 7 more are pursuing their PhD under him. He has held positions like the Dean (Faculty Welfare), Director (in-charge), Dean (Research & Consultancy) and Registrar of NIT Meghalaya. He is a member of the Board of Governors of NIT Meghalaya and a member of several academic and financial committees in different institutes and government organizations. He is also a member of several research bodies, including a life member of the International Liquid Crystals Society (ILCS).
